All,

Success. At last. I've traced the problems with 109/110p2 on Alpha down
to the NCR driver. After my first round of missing symbols while building
for a VGA console, I had downloaded and built egcs-1.1 pre-release; using
that for the kernel build. Reverting back to egcs-1.0.3 resulted in a
kernel that actually booted and ran for a while - before dying with all
sorts of SCSI errors. This made me quite suspicious, as I've never had
problem number one with the box or drives.

On a hunch, I reverted back to the ncr83xxx driver from kernel 2.1.104
(driver version 2.0f, I believe). Presto! All is well. Despite some
continuing wierdness with the TGA console (no screen blanking, console
messages popping up in odd places, etc.), it's basically working.

Not sure if this is the compiler, the driver, or both. All I know is it's
working <g>.

Steve
