It seems like I have had several DIFFERENT networking problems.

I got an advice from Anders Melchiorsen
(postmaster@ NOSPAM.kampsax.dtu.dk), who had this (cosmetic) problem
himself, and solved it by changing the Redhat "ifup"-script:

- ifconfig ${DEVICE} 0.0.0.0 broadcast 255.255.255.255 netmask 0.0.0.0
+ ifconfig ${DEVICE} 0.0.0.0

This removed the "SIOCSIFBRDxxxx: Cannot assign requested
address"-warnings on my system too. Anders could not explain WHY the
change helped.
My ifconfig is (ifconfig --version) is Net-Tools 1.45, ifconfig
1.33 (1998-03-02). This should be up-to-date according to the kernel
Changes-file.
So, is this an error? If so - is the kernel or Net-tools responsible?

Now, only the fault, that bootpc doesn't work at startup is left. Else, I
think I'm ready to move to v2.2 ;)
