Yes, it's to do with framebuffer stuff. My recommendation is to go to 2.1.109
plus patch-2.1.109-ac1.gz from ftp://ftp.uk.linux.org/pub/linux/alan/2.1/
I still don't have framebuffer working on either of my linux boxes, one with a
CL5446 and the other with a Diamond Stealth 3D 3000 4 Meg card (S3 Virge/VX).
My machine boots and the last message I see is the Uncompressing Kernel one,
but I'm able to login blind and start up X, either I don't understand much about
framebuffer configuring as the docs are rather sparse or my cards are not
catered for, they both have VESA framebuffer.
