Well, my machine crashed again after half an hour - this time not running X.

I'm now running 2.0.34 and when I just tried playing an mp3, it started
complaining about IRQ/DRQ timeouts. Opened up the case, and by some magic
twist of fate my Gravis wasn't in place anymore - so it seems to be
hardware-related. Just hot-plugged it back in and it works again.
