Can you tell me what mode do you set up and what shows on the screen?
I've experienced some problems with SVGATextMode recently, but most of them
appeared only when I was switching between two modes with identical number
of lines and columns, but different number of scan lines.

To get setup as similar to previous kernels as possible (and also as fast
as possible), configure CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE and unconfigure CONFIG_FB at all.
