The problem is that you need per-CPU statistics, which are not (AFAIK)
(yet) available in stock kernels (please let me know if I'm wrong
here). I just looked at xosview 1.6.1 and the README.linux states that
you need patches to view per-CPU statistics there as well.

That makes sense of course.
As long as the /proc filesystem does not give the required
information, people will still have to use patches for thouse
utilities. However, I don't think that's bad as of now, because you
need to manually patch the Makefile for Linux anyway to get an SMP
system.
