sendfile() semantics / aio

Hello,

Excuse me for raising this issue again, but could someone explain the
semantics / possibilities of the new sendfile() syscall ?
Ive seen Linus' example, but what about (async) completion notification ?
Is that an issue/ option ?
I mean if sendfile() could deliver a signal upon completion/failure then
that would be a cool thing.
How about an extra parameter for sendfile() : sendfile(int fd1,int fd2, int
size,struct overlapped *ptr).
struct overlapped /* (un)like NT */
{
size_t transferred; // bytes transferred
int errno_result; // errno at notification time.
/* other stuff ..*/
};
It would behave like an async ioctl() . Does it make sense ?

René
