Sorry - I did not try to fix this because I personally much prefer running
cat /proc/kmesg on a spare xterm anyway :) (bad attitude, I know...) but
here is what I get in my /var/log/messages and klogd is not running. If,
after the system is up, I start klogd manually it runs fine.
Jun 2 07:35:28 newton syslogd 1.3-3: restart.
Jun 2 07:35:28 newton kernel: klogd 1.3-3, log source = /proc/kmsg
started.
Jun 2 07:35:28 newton kernel: Loaded 6143 symbols from /boot/System.map.
Jun 2 07:35:28 newton kernel: Symbols match kernel version 2.1.102.
Jun 2 07:35:28 newton kernel: Error seeking in /dev/kmem
Jun 2 07:35:28 newton kernel: Error adding kernel module table entry.
