Bill - sorry, ignore that last report. I just realized that I
compiled my kernel with SMP=1 after applying the updated
knfsd patch. That would account for the error in io_apic_read.

with the second knfsd patch and the kdev_t patch applied, my kernel panics in io_apic_read during boot (after initializing BM-DMA on the first and only IDE drive) ...
