Had kernel 2.1.103 up and running (not well, but running). I downloaded
the pre-patch, applied it with no problems by doing:
patch -p0 < pre-patch-2.1.104
in my /usr/src directory. I scripted the whole patch sequence, and then
checked the script file after and found no failed sections at all. I then
recompiled the kernel without modifying the config file at all. The
kernel compiled fine, I made modules and then installed them.
When I rebooted, I got this error message over and over again:
SCSI host 0 abort (pid 1) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
SCSI host 0 abort (pid 1) timed out - trying harder
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
I thought this might be a problem with the SCSI probing for only 5 seconds
and then resetting the bus. So I booted into my old kernel, upped the
time to 20 seconds (max allowable according to config help) and
recompiled. Same error message again.
My system is:
ASUS TX-97XE motherboard w/128 MB EDo memory
Adaptec 2940UW PCI SCSI card
4.5 GB Seagate Barracuda UW SCSI for /dev/sda
4.5 GB Seagate Barracuda UW SCSI for /dev/sdb
9.1 GB Western Digital UW SCSI for /dev/sdc
NEC 6X SCSI CD-ROM
HP SureStore 6020 CDR.
The boot process appears to be polling the CD-ROM when it decides to reset
the bus. I thought Linus mentioned that he changed some of the PCI stuff
in the pre-patch. Any suggestions?
