get_kernel_sys failed

I upgraded to 2.0.34pre13 and at the very end of the boot sequence I get
the message:

| get_kernel_sys failed: Cannot find Kernel symbols!
| Running gpm...
|
| Welcome to Linux 2.0.34
|

After that everything is normal. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
