should pppd be doing this?

at (as far as i know) random times, pppd dies with this message:

May 14 19:51:23 nuklear pppd[423]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
May 14 19:51:23 nuklear pppd[423]: read: Interrupted system call(4)
May 14 19:51:24 nuklear pppd[423]: Exit.

this only started when i upgraded to ppp-2.3.5. i was using 2.3.2 from a
debian package before, and it seemed to work well. the only difference
other than the version number that i can think of is that my 2.3.5 was
compiled with pgcc and no special optimizations.
