backup locks up at the end?

Hello, I have been having some backup problems since the beginning of
2.1.x kernels. I have an adaptec 2490U controller, with 2 newer scsi hard
disks (IDE boot), scsi cdrom, and an TR-4 backup. For a while a backup
would not complete at all and would lock up during the backup, usually in
the first few minutes of it. I found, or thought this was due to another
older disk I had in the system. And when removed, I was able to do backups
again, or so I thought. Since then, a few times the backups do work, but
more often (I do backups 4 times a week), the system locks up at the end
of the tape. I believe it to be right when it starts to rewind,
although but I am almost never present when it does it (backups start @
4am). Anyone have any input on this? Email appreciated.
