I know this isn't a hardware problem. I can pingflood a host on the
internal network for hours with no problem. the external nic is in
constant use and never causes a problem.

PS - I wrote a much better message than this describing my problems a bit
better. Alas, a family member decided to use ip masquerading and the
computer froze, taking my complete but unsent message with it :-(
