more info. I have been copying 200mb files around, copying NFS to
NFS, removing files while copying other files, in short, beating
heck out of the SCSI and ethernet drivers. no problems. no hiccups.
no hangups. no oopses. no ughs. (except from my local sysadmin who
noticed the hellacious network traffic originating from my machine. :)
)...

so 2.1.99-pre1 seems solid to this happy user. :)
