motherboard chipsets

looking at the kernel options i see various workarounds for the more rare
chipsets but nothing for todays chipsets that most Pc vendors are using (TX,LX)

are there any problems or issues I should be aware of with these or any of the
newer chipsets (such as EX) ?
If so, is there a way ro compile for "generic" chipsets
