It is a single-processor machine, with 'SMP=' commented in the Makefile.

Done. It works just fine with 2.1.89. The driver on the web site differs
from the 2.1.98 version, but you knew that...

Done. Works fine with the older kernels, but not with 2.1.9[78].

Anyway, it kind of looks like the BusLogic driver is not the problem here.
I'm not quite sure what to do to track this down further.
