I compiled 2.1.98 with egcs980315 and Rik Van Riel's typo-fixes for
mm/vmscan.c and mm/page_alloc.c. Actually, the page_alloc.c isn't just
a typo, but the vmscan.c one is. So that could be the reason why 98 is
working here.
I have no SCSI. I use PPP and I have an ATA hard drive, and ATA CD,
and an SB16 sound card. All are working fine. The compile went fine
too :)
