Order of Required Upgrades??

Is there a specific order you have to upgrade the programs that are on
http://www.linuxhq.com/pgmup21.html, the required program upgrades for
kernel 2.1.x, to avoid shit loads of compiling errors? Like procps I
couldn't compile because of errors with termcap.h. So I upgraded my
ncurses but then that killed my vi so I downgraded to my original but
still haven't been able to compile procps error free. Also
net-tools-1.432 didn't compile either. It even said in the README file
that it should compile with no errors but I got shit loads of them. So
is there any order that I need to follow in upgrading these programs for
the 2.1.x kernels?? Thanks!!
