dhcpcd and 2.1?

I'm having trouble getting my Linux box to be a DHCP client. It's
running kernels in the 2.1 group. Phil Karn said he understood that
the DHCP code was totally rewritten in 2.1. Could someone point me to
a dhcpcd implementation that will work under 2.1?

The error I get occurs when the program tries to set the broadcast
address to 255.255.255.255 via an ioctl(). The error message is
"Cannot assign requested address." I get the same error message when
I attempt to do the same thing from the command line with "ifconfig
eth0 broadcast 255.255.255.255".

Help!
Jack.
(I tried to add myself to linux-kernel-digest, but haven't gotten any
mail recently. Please send me a copy of any replies until I get the
list straightened out. Thanks!)
