Compile Time error on 2.1.97

O.K. I have a burning question. Sorry if this a bit off topic.

Can anyone tell me or point me to info on the swap size limit and it's reason?

For those interested, we have here at BBN Technologies coming up on 45 Pentium
Pro's and II's ranging from 200 to 300 MHz, and more importantly holding
between 256 to 384 M RAM. Moreover, our application is speech recognition,
which means we can easily use all the RAM, and then some. It is very easy to
imagine a single malloc requesting 130M of RAM.

Because of this, I need to become more aware of the memory limits of the
2.0.32 and forward kernels, that I may set up machines optimally.

Thanks in advance.
