There are known problems with IDE on this motherboard using the
IO-APIC code introduced in 2.1.85. E-mail gigabyte's tech support
people and ask if they've figured it out yet, and if so, when they're
going to do something about it for their would-be happy customers.

In the meantime, buy a SCSI hard disk. ;-)
