I wrote

I'd already like to add two additonal observations:
- The bogus differences reported by diff are 16 consective bytes.
- The problem only occurs when the two identical directory trees
reside on an scsi disk. When I compare identical diretory trees
on an ide disk, diff -r correctly detects no differences.
