FYI, Union FS is a concept from bsd of a few years ago. This was (if I
remember correctly) a kernel implementation which let you overlay local
storage on top of some other file system. (e.g. from a cdrom or an nfs
server).

If you want to study it, I'd suggest pulling up bsd docs.
