IDE without /proc support broken

IDE support does not build in 2.1.90 unless /proc support is included.
Does anyone know if this is fixed yet and just not merged with Linus? I
was going to take a crack at fixing this, but have never looked at the
IDE code, and being lazy figured I'd ask first.

This raises another question. The 2.2 wishlist mentions making procfs
support mandatory, so CONFIG_PROC_FS would basically go away. I would
assume most people would want things left the way they are for embedded
systems and so forth. There are no plans to do away with CONFIG_PROC_FS,
are there?

And finally, some time back Linus mentioned he would like to see procfs
rewritten/cleaned up now that there are dentries. Is anyone doing this?
He also mentioned something to the effect that in hind sight the system
stuff should have been kept separate from the process stuff. Would such
a break with backwards compatability be considered when 2.3 development
eventually begins?

Cheers,
Chris
