2.1.90 OPL3 broken?

Just installed a new 100% SB compatible (REALLY 100%, as in ESS1868)
soundcard in a Linux 2.1.90 system - Digital Audio works, but I can't make
it use the OPL3 chip:

ufp:/files/build/playmidi-2.2# ./playmidi jazz.mid
open /dev/sequencer: Device not configured
ufp:/files/build/playmidi-2.2# insmod opl3
YM3812 and OPL-3 driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen, Rob Hooft 1993-1996
ufp:/files/build/playmidi-2.2# ./playmidi jazz.mid
open /dev/sequencer: Device or resource busy

Is this a Kernel bug, or a mistake on my side? (First time I'm installing
a soundcard, sorry ;) )
