It's all fine as long as "alan" doen't mind and you aren't bothered
by random name and version changes.

I don't think he does, else my name should be there in the MAINTAINERS
file for IP ;-)

I would expect you to be bothered by the version changes. It's not
really "version control" when that happens. (it was _only_ the
version control info that changed)

What happens is a patch gets in directly to Linus via Alan, and this
is fine, and then when I get that into my tree, it gets the version
control numbers updated at that point, so you see the weird one-liner
the next time I merge my latest changes to Linus.

So don't worry, I know it happens and why ;-)
