hangs on write (update)

On 2.0.33 (non-smp), a broken network connection will sometimes cause
all writes to the corresponding /dev/ttyp to be flagged uninterruptible
and hang forever. (The wchan value inicates that they are waiting
in do_down() at the point where schedule() is being called.)

But all this does not help much...

How do I find out why the tasks have been set to uninterruptible?
What can be done about it?

please help, I'm really stuck.

Kai
