March 1998 article comparing NT/Unix/Linux as web servers

They only compared Caldera OpenLinux 1.1. RedHat would have been much
better.

Also, for File system size and max file size they put N/A (Not
applicable in their footnotes).

Also, they show max CPU's as 1 (true I suppose for a vanilla release,
but easily obtainable), 32-bit only (no 64bit apps or file systems),
etc.

They also compare the Caldera-with-apps at $399 to base NT at $809.

Repeatedly, the author goes on and on about the great three-tier
development support and that it's the 'only platform for which
designing a three-tier application would be easy and fun'.

Also, he mentions that it comes with ASP Web scripting, Web server
Software (IIS), Transaction Processing (TP) monitoring (Transaction
Server), message-oriented middleware (MOM or MSMQ) and MS Management
Console (MMC). Not once does he mention that these have further
license that must be paid for in many circumstances. For instance,
the Web Server is only licensed as aan Internet server, Intranet use
requires client licensing.

He does indicate that the Unix boxes are far more reliable and faster.

The author's address is: barryn@bix.com.

Please help correct this weak perception...
