Perhaps this is the solution:

We have two kernel trees marked so:

We have our Alpha/Beta kernel:
2.1.10[a][b][c]
And we have our "Stable" kernel:
2.1.10 (no suffix)
(Where 10 is the bug fix level). If it has an "a" "b" or "c" suffix is
determined by how long a group of testers have used the kernel. Not
all bugfix levels would have a stable counterpart.

Suffix:

A: Added new features. Existing features not changed
(unless another suffix is present).
B: Bugfixes applied. The bugfixes are untested (yet).
C: Changes! Something has changed in such a way that current
users are/could-be effected.

The hope is that:

1) Linus will get patches from people that are either Class A, B, or C
and therefor Linus can manage the patches easier.
2) Most kernels will have only one suffix (most of the time).

Actually....looking back at this, I like the ABC thingies, but I don't
think it'll work. At least, maybe it'll start a "dialog".
