lpr problems in 2.0->2.1?

I've had an odd problem in upgrading to 2.1: The lprng printer system
has started misprinting my PostScript documents. I get extra blank pages,
a few pages are duplicated, some don't come out at all.

It's not that printer device is intrinsically broken, because when I
"cat foo.ps >/dev/lp0" it works.

It's almost as if the lp driver is returning after partial writes when
it never used to, and the lprng daemon isn't prepared for it, so it's
writing the same data over and over. Did the lp device change in any
such way beteen 2.0.33 and 2.1.85?
