pppd and 2.1.82

One anomaly noted when using 2.1.82. I am running a RedHat 5.0 system
with ppp-2.3.3. In 2.1.82 the timeout option for ppp does not work as
it is supposed to. My /etc/ppp/options file specifies timeout 300. In
2.1.81 ppp hangs up the modem after 300 seconds as it should. In 2.1.82
the modem does not hang up until the connection is terminated by the
peer.
