Hi
I noticed that in 2.1.7x's some problems with IDE disks appear in my
system. I observe problems with an old Seagate Technology ST157A (below)
during large transmissions as well as my QUANTUM BIGFOOT_CY4320A sometimes
hangs during boot while reading its partition table. None of problems exist
in either 2.1.64 or 2.0.x. Both disks work correctly with other OS-es (DOS,
W95, UnixWare)

What has changed in 2.1.7x ? What can cause the problems?
Are disk operations being performed more agresively?

Controller is on-board (486) ALI chipset based with "ide0=ali14xx" enabled,
but no settings is performed using hdparm (standard settings)

It may be a hardware problem, but why the problem does not appear in older
kernels ????

[hdd is ST157A; similar if connected as hdc]
