Peeter Joot has once posted patches for this stuff. I have not seem
much discussion of them; I think some feed-back would be good (I'm
guilty myself, having not even used the patches, yet).

Isn't this more of a gdb issue? It seems gdb is not really maintained
these days, so if anybody is still looking for a good project :-)
