Hello,

I always get a kernel panic:
free list corrupted, when i try to format a scsi partition on a certain
harddisk with mkfs.ext2. This is ICP Vortex 6521 Controller which has
this hardisk as single disk in his List (No Raid on this scsi-disk) What
I do:

mkfs.ext2 /dev/sda2
The process starts an gets stuck at the end with kernel panic.

I although tried to make new partitions. Nothing seems to help to avoid
the kernel panic.

MAYBE IMPORTANT.
The first time i partitioned an formated this (ca. 6 hours ago the
formating
worked. I tried to copy a whole linux installation from a ide disk to
this scsi-disk
I got the same kernel panic as above .when I did
cd /
find . -name | cpio -pvum /mnt

/mnt was /dev/sda2

HARDWARE FAILURE or SOFTWARE?

Regards,
Dietmar
