Kernel > 2.1.65 causes SCSI timeouts

I recently upgraded my system to 2.1.75 and was very unhappy to find
that, with moderate disk I/O load, I can get the kernel to go into a cycle of a
bunch of SCSI timeouts followed by a system reboot when the driver can't bring
things back to life. This makes the kernel effectively unusable. I was less
amused when I started binary-searching the old kernel versions to figure out
which version was the border between this behavior and working fine --
whatever problem is causing this to happen appears to have been there since
2.1.66.

Since I might be the only person on the planet with the lucky system
configuration that causes this to happen, I've appended my kernel config file.
I've tried both of the drivers for the DPT host adapters and the problem
happens with either.

Can someone suggest ways to get this problem solved?
