I tried to make an IP tunnel one end of which was on the
2.1.72 machine. I have noticed that I cannot set a proxy-arp entry
for the other end. I did the following:
[root@calypso /]# /sbin/arp -H ether -s gloin 00:A0:24:72:F1:30 pub -i eth0
[root@calypso /]# /sbin/arp
Address HWtype HWaddress Flags Mask Iface
[...]
gloin.fi.muni.cz * * MP eth0
Note the strange stars here. And, of course, calypso did not
respond to arp requests for gloin on the local ethernet. My /sbin/arp
is:
[root@calypso /]# rpm -qf /sbin/arp
net-tools-1.33-4
The system is up-to-date RedHat 5.0, 2.1.72 kernel on a P120
3c90x network card.
Am I doing anything wrong here?

PS.: When I can get a tcpdump that works with 2.1.72? My tcpdump-3.4a5-1
says "Socket type not supported".
