Good morning to everyone on the list. I hope that this note finds
everyone's day starting out well.

Thursday afternoon we plopped down a nice new dual PII-300 with 256Meg
of RAM on our test bench at the university. This machine is to be a
prototype machine for demonstrating the feasibility of INTEL/Linux
based machines as active members of our server farm.

The machine itself is a GW2K G6-300 based on the INTEL motherboard. I
was apprehensive about the onboard SCSI and my concerns were well
justified. We quickly found out about the incompatibility problems
between the Adaptec 7895 chipset and the current aic7xxx drivers.

I am querying the list to determine if anyone is working on drivers
for this beast or has pointers on a good place to start. We have
poked around a bit and it would appear that the FreeBSD group has had
some luck with this chipset but I can't track down any leads to code
sources.

I would be more than happy to work on this or provide access to a
machine if anyone has something ready to go. Thanks much for any
information that may be forthcoming. I need to make a decision as to
whether or not to disable the onboard controller and go with a
Buslogic card which is probably what I should have done in the first
place.

Best wishes for a nice weekend to everyone.

Greg
