I see the same thing, except here it chooses to use the loopback
interface as default(!)

Everything but traceroute seems to work okay, so I haven't bothered much
looking for clues. This happens with 2.1.58 (I think) and (certainly)
with 2.1.62. But it is perhaps not a kernel issue.
