I'm running 2.0.31...I just tried to read the IDE cdrom
and couldn't...

At boot, I have:
<4>hda: QUANTUM LPS540A, 516MB w/96kB Cache, CHS=524/32/63
<4>hdb: WDC AC31600H, 1549MB w/128kB Cache, CHS=787/64/63
<4>hdc: ST32132A, 2015MB w/120kB Cache, CHS=4095/16/63
<4>hdd: NEC CD-ROM DRIVE:260, ATAPI cdrom or floppy?, assuming FLOPPY - not supported by this kernel
<4>ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
<4>ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15

My configuration says:
# Floppy, IDE, and other block devices
#
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_FD=y
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE=y

#
# Please see Documentation/ide.txt for help/info on IDE drives
#
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_HD_IDE is not set
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDECD=y
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDETAPE is not set
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEFLOPPY is not set
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDESCSI is not set
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE_PCMCIA is not set
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_CMD640 is not set
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_RZ1000=y
# CONFIG_BLK_DEV_TRITON is not set
# CONFIG_IDE_CHIPSETS is not set

I'm not sure I understand it...
