modprobe: can't locate module block-major-3

On occasion, these messages show up:

Oct 5 14:58:35 tarantula modprobe: can't locate module block-major-3

This is apparently a reference to /dev/hda and /dev/hdb. I have no
IDE devices installed and have not built the IDE portions of the
kernel (2.1.57). Why might this be happening???
