UltraATA HD Detection - no go :(

I was wondering if anyone has successfully installed Linux on the Gateway
2000 Pentium II 233Mhz machine? I was told it would not detect the hard
drive because it the HD is plugged into a RAID Adapter, rather than the
EIDE slot on the MB. Anyone have any success in installing Linux on it? I
really can't wait to get back to Linux. My friend had made me a modified
boot disk a while back which made it detect it..But it only worked for
Redhat..I really want to install Slackware..If anyone could help me hack
away at this problem, or if there is a patch that I don't know
about..please inform me! thanks.
