Tried 2.0.30pre10? (11?) [I don't use those kernels much]
2.1.56 or later?

hmm.. There's a SLIGHT possibility that it's the S3 ViRGE... That card
does fail in some motherboards (ones without proper PCI DEVSEL, though
IIRC there's some other situations too [I don't have the ViRGE databook
on-hand])... but if you're seeing bootup it's probably not that....

hmmm.

A strange idea - do you have kernel 1.2.13 bootdisk?
It could be the PCI init.
[can the systems init with any other OS?]
