I propose the expanded use of an already existing mailing list:
linux-kernel-patch. Right now, this is only used to send out
official kernel patches. I find this very useful, and the signal to noise
ratio = oo (i.e. noise =0). If we were to expand the useage of this list
so that everybody that has a kernel patch to submit sent it there, the
signal to noise ratio would still remain very high. All discussion of the
patches would remain on linux-kernel. Everyone could post their patch
with a Subject that was descriptive(i.e. "2.1.56CD-include-patch12" or
"2.1.99shrink-buffers-patch4" or "2.0.30-cosmetic-bug") This would be
very low effort. If we wanted a slightly higher effort approach, we could
even have somebody moderate the list to keep out useless stuff.
Additionally we could set the Reply-To field to linux-kernel. This way by
archiving the mailing list we would ALL have our own private linux-hq.
Any thoughts? Does this sound good? Would vger be ok with this?
