I found the "unable to open initial console" message I'd reported earlier
was due to an error in my installkernel script.

I'm still getting warnings from ecc.c in the ftape driver, because it
includes libc headers (I have GNU libc 2.0.3). The attached patch, which
I posted last month, corrects this, and has a tiny change to make icmp.h
more compatible with GNU libc when it's used for applications (backport
from 2.1 kernel).
