2.1.55 is stable for me.

I've hacked it for 1024 fd's, and it's been up for a nice long
time:

Linux wolverine 2.1.55 #7 Fri Sep 12 11:37:49 EDT 1997 i586
12:02pm up 6 days, 23:52, 9 users, load average: 1.35, 1.49, 1.18

This is a smp p133
