Aside...

This is why I always thought Gordon Chaffee's FAT32/Joliet patch
would never make it into the kernel. He tried to add support for code
pages (because FAT32 is locale based?) which looked klunky to me.
I'm sure Gordon had his reasons - I'm pretty FAT32/Joliet ignorant.

Every once in a while I get the urge to rip that part out of the FAT32
patches, and submit the rest after stitching the wound. Alas, no time
and too many other fish to fry.
