ppa put's the load way up??

I'm running 2.1.51 with the available patch to compile with that
kernel. When I access the zip drive my system load goes way up (I've
seen between 3 and 5).

I also get a lot of 'kernel: Trying to free free IRQ7'

I'm using EPP parallel port. parport is compiled into the kernel as
well as parport_pc. lp and ppa are compiled as modules and lp can be
present or not to exhibit the above behaviour

Anybody else seen this?
