Well, you asked for show stoppers, how's this:

After several "Couldn't get free page...." messages while running bonnie
on a 100MB file, P133, 64MB of RAM, running in single user mode I got
these:

Out of memory for init

Out of memory for bonnie

Bonnie kept running for about another 15 seconds, then I got the:

Aiee: scheduling in interrupt

things so fast I couldn't see anything else.
