FWIW, I ran ncr53c8xx patch 2.3 on 2.0.30, pre-2.0.31-5 and almost
everything from 2.1.42 to 2.1.49. No problems. SMP, ASUS P/I-P65UP5
P-166x2, SC-875, Ultra disks.
